Venture capital (VC) funds invested $527 million in crypto startups in July, up 14.5% year-over-year, according to DefiLlama.

The blockchain infrastructure sector raised $420.7 million last month, with its startups making the largest contribution, accounting for nearly 80% of the total.

Artificial intelligence (AI) protocol Sentient has secured $85 million in a round led by Pantera Capital and Framework Ventures, making it the most successful round ever for a blockchain infrastructure project.

Blockchain payment network Partior has raised a significant $60 million in funding from traditional banking giants JPMorgan and Standard Chartered. Thus, just 2 of the 41 infrastructure-related funding rounds accounted for approximately 34% of the amount raised.

DeFi protocols received $86 million in investment in July. Pawnbroker raised $16 million, recording the largest amount raised by a DeFi project in the past month.

ZAP, a community-driven token distribution protocol based on Blast, has raised $15 million from well-known crypto names like Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz, Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal, and economist Alex Krueger.

Notably, the DeFi blockchain monad layer 1 ecosystem attracted significant attention from venture capitalists in July. Kintsu and aPriori, both liquid staking protocols, have raised $4 million and $10 million, respectively. Additionally, Kuru has received $2 million to build a decentralized order directory on top of the Monad infrastructure.

The blockchain gaming ecosystem also raised capital from venture capital firms last month, completing its July funding rounds with $20.5 million.

Cambria, a Runescape-style game from the Blast network, has raised $2.5 million from Bitkraft and 1kx.

Additionally, Pantera Capital, Mantle Ecosystem Fund, and other big names have committed $18 million to NPC Labs, a protocol building a blockchain ecosystem.

Venture capitalists’ interest in cryptocurrencies is more lively this year than last year. From January to July last year, crypto startups raised $4.22 billion from funds, while this year, crypto projects have raised nearly $5 billion in the same period.
