US law enforcement agencies note problems in the fight against crypto -meshs

A number of US law enforcement agencies note that they are faced with systemic problems in combating the activities of cryptocurrency criminals. Over the past few months, the number of fraud has grown, and the victims of hackers are mostly elderly people. According to a number of reports, now fraudsters often impersonate well -known persons, for example, stars and politicians. They also fake arrest orders, which are issued by law enforcement agencies. The victims, fearing criminal prosecution, transfer digital assets to the wallets of hackers.

According to the police department of Lincoln and the office of the sheriff of the Lancaster district, since 2020, residents of the region have lost millions due to scammers as a result of such fraud. It was also noted that with a high degree of probability of victims, they will no longer be able to return the lost funds. It was emphasized that over the past few years, local departments have investigated 18 cases related to fraud. Officials of the region noted that over the past 5 years, users have lost at least $ 1 million due to criminals.

LPD sergeant Steve Viza mentioned that criminals often use very complex schemes, and this clearly complicates the process of detection and arrest. According to the officer, there is no noticeable difference, but there are differences in the method used by criminals.

He added that most of these frauds vary from ordinary romantic scams to messages on social networks such as “Hello, we have already met.”

Local law enforcement agencies also added that most criminals are trying to stay in touch with their victims for a long time. Now more and more American law enforcement agencies are urging regulators to take active measures in order to stop the activities of scammers.
