The verified account of the ZKSYNC project on the social network X was compromised and used to publish malicious reports about the allegedly neglected cord of the ZK Tokens. Users were invited to follow the link to “get their share” from the initial distribution of the asset. However, the indicated domain is already included in the black list of Scamsniffer and officially marked as phishing.
The publication said that each ZKSYNC subscriber has the right to receive ZK tokens and encouraged users to switch to a malicious site. The post itself is decorated in a recognizable branded style of the project, including the logo and a link that visually imitates the official ZKSYNC domain. However, Scamsniffer automatically warned users that the specified address is related to fraudulent actions. Comments under the publication also contain numerous Messaji from the members of the community about an attempt to steal funds.
This incident poses a serious threat, since ZKSYNC is one of the largest projects in the Ethereum ecosystem of the 2nd level (L2), and its official page in X has 1.5 million subscribers. The massive spread of fake information through an authoritative source can lead to significant losses among unprepared users if they sign harmful transactions or provide access to their wallets.
At the time of publication by the ZKSYNC platform itself, there were no officials or comments. However, according to the signs of compromise, it is obvious that the attackers gained access to the account and placed a phishing link in the calculation of the audience’s quick response. Separate users are already reporting that they were trapped by signing transactions through the site.
Previously, such schemes were used in a number of other attacks through compromised accounts of well -known projects, including Arbitrum, Opensea and Azuki. Each of these attacks was accompanied by the massive spread of fake information, pushing victims to the performance of actions leading to complete loss of assets.
