Prime Minister of Japan Siger Isib for an interview with HNK. He noted that the government of the country is aimed at achieving justice during negotiations with the United States on the issue of trade duties. It was emphasized that the United States and Japan remain large trading partners. It is worth noting that a few days ago, the US leadership initiated the first round of negotiations. At the same time, Donald Trump himself said that he had already managed to achieve significant progress. Sigar Isib said that the Minister of Finance of Japan Katsunobu Kato should negotiate with the head of the US Treasury by Scott Immentan. At the same time, meetings of the heads of state are not yet expected.
Initially, the Donald Trump administration introduced duties of 24% in relation to Japan. But so far the head of the United States has decided to postpone the trade tariffs for 90 days. For this period, a tariff of 10%will be valid. However, there are still 25% duties for cars supplied from Japan. This one causes severe damage to the country’s economy, since for it this niche remains one of the key items of export.
Ishiba said that Tokyo can be open for changes in non -tariff barriers, including long -standing complaints about car safety standards in Japan. Earlier in Washington they emphasized that this regulation makes it almost impossible to enter American cars to the Japanese market.
Prime Minister Siger Isib did not agree with such accusations, but emphasized that Tokyo was opened for a general dialogue for this.
There are also messages from Nikkei Asia that Japan is considering mitigating some of these car safety requirements in the framework of its negotiation strategy. The issue of exporting energy from the United States is also considered.
